Request Dr. Scott

Thank you for your interest in having Dr. Stuart Scott speak at your church or event. In order to best utilize both his and your time and ensure a timely response, we ask that you use the following procedure for inviting him to speak. Dr. Scott will let you know if he is able to accept your invitation as soon as possible.

TRAVEL SCHEDULE

Dr. Scott’s normal traveling and speaking format is travel on Friday morning or afternoon, speak Friday evening, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon, and return home Saturday afternoon/early evening. At times he is asked to stay the night and preach on Sunday mornings.

 

BOOKING FLIGHTS

After consulting Dr. Scott or his secretary about flight times, he would prefer that the church purchase his airline ticket (and/or rental car) if possible. If this is not possible, please try to reimburse him in a timely manner to avoid having him carry this cost. Dr. Scott travels from the Louisville airport (airport code: SDF). He is content to fly with any airline you deem necessary. An exit row and aisle is also appreciated whenever possible, due to his height.

 

LODGING

Arrangements should be made by the host ahead of time and communicated to Dr. Scott at least one week in advance. Dr. Scott seems to minister best by staying in a private, non-smoking hotel room. Dr. Scott is certainly willing to stay in a home if necessary, but would ask that it be communicated to the hosts of the home that he will need undisturbed time for preparation and sufficient rest (especially if dealing with any time zone changes), so as not to offend or seem unsociable, while also being careful not to short change his speaking audience for the glory of God.

 

FOOD REQUESTS

In general, Dr. Scott is not at all picky about types of food. Dr. Scott humbly requests a low-fat diet if possible.

 

FREE TIME

During his free time, Dr. Scott may need to rest or do some grading.

 

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

For most speaking events, Dr. Scott will need:

  • PowerPoint capabilities – He can either bring his own laptop or a thumb drive with his PowerPoint files. In any case, he would like to toggle his own slides and have a screen (even if just his laptop) in front of him to view.
  • Copies made of his handouts – Please check with Dr. Scott prior to arrival to see if this is needed.
  • A display table for his materials, if possible – Dr. Scott would appreciate you making his books available (The Exemplary Husband, The Faithful Parent, From Pride to Humility, etc.) for purchase at the event. He would also appreciate you providing other good books on the topics he is speaking on (e.g. if at a Marriage Retreat, he may recommend Martha Peace’s The Excellent Wife).

    HONORABLE HONORARIUMS

    Dr. Scott does not set a fee for ministering to God’s people. If you would like to bless him with an honorable honorarium and want to know the average given to him for various events, please contact him for the information. Often smaller churches unite together in an area to put on a conference.

    WHEN IS DR. SCOTT USUALLY AVAILABLE TO SPEAK?

    Dr. Scott normally travels on Friday morning or afternoon and returns home by Saturday early evening so that he may serve in his home church. On occasions he may (if invited) stay over and speak on Sundays.

     

    HOW CAN WE MAKE DR. SCOTT’S BOOKS AVAILABLE AT THE EVENT?

    If at all possible, Dr. Scott would appreciate having his books available at the event (The Exemplary Husband, The Faithful Parent, From Pride to Humility, etc.) as well as others such as Martha Peace’s The Excellent Wife.

     

    MAY WE PRESERVE YOUR SESSIONS ON AUDIO AND/OR VIDEO AND RESERVE RIGHTS TO THEM?

    Yes, that is fine in most cases. Increasingly, however, Dr. Scott expects to have recordings available of some of the material he presents most regularly. These would be made available on the book table in addition to or instead of (at least while Dr. Scott is there) recordings made at the event. If you record his sessions, he would like to receive a copy when you’re finished and be able to use it himself. If needed, recordings can be mailed to him after the event.

     

    HOW SHOULD THE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS BE MADE?

    Dr. Scott prefers that you do the travel research on your end and propose a travel schedule to him. After you and his secretary approve the schedule, he would like you to book and pay for the flight in order to avoid reimbursement for both parties.

     

    DOES DR. SCOTT PREFER TO STAY IN A HOME OR A HOTEL?

    In almost all situations, Dr. Scott prefers to stay in a non-smoking room in a hotel. However, he does not want this to be a logistical or financial burden for the church. There are rare situations where the best choice is to stay in a home. However, please realize the limitations of having a speaker in a home: sufficient preparation time and rest to insure that the speaking audience and God’s glory are not short changed. Please feel free to discuss this matter with us.

     

    DOES DR. SCOTT WANT A RENTAL CAR?

    Dr. Scott almost never needs a rental car. Sometimes his hosts find it necessary to rent a car on his behalf so he can drive from the airport to their distant locale.

    The only time Dr. Scott needs a rental car is when he is driving to the event, rather than flying. He prefers to drive when the event is within a three-hour or so drive from Louisville. Because these rentals usually occur on a weekend, the rate is half the cost of a weekday rental. The result is that even with the gasoline expense added to the rental fee, the cost to the host church or organization is less than if Dr. Scott drove his own vehicle and received reimbursement at the current IRS mileage rate.

     

    WHAT DOES DR. SCOTT LIKE/NOT LIKE TO EAT?

    In general, Dr. Scott is not at all picky about types of food. He appreciates, if at all possible, a low-fat diet.

     

    WILL DR. SCOTT BRING HIS WIFE?

    More often than not, it is after Dr. Scott arrives that he is asked, “Why didn’t you bring your wife?” So perhaps it will be helpful to address this issue here in advance. Dr. Scott loves to bring his wife Zondra, but it is not always possible. In our current season Zondra is spending much of her time traveling back and forth to California to care for our family so she is not able to accompany Dr. Scott on weekend visits.

     

    WHAT DOES DR. SCOTT WANT TO DO IN HIS FREE TIME HERE?

    Dr. Scott may prefer to rest during his free time. It is a good idea to inquire about the previous week’s ministry schedule. Be assured that he does not need to be entertained.

     

    WHAT IS DR. SCOTT’S SPEAKING FEE?

    Nearly all those who invite Dr. Scott to speak intend to express their gratitude for his preparation, labors and time away from his family through some sort of honorarium, but some are uncertain about what amount would be appropriate. While Dr. Scott assumes that his travel, lodging and food expenses would be covered, he has always been reluctant to set a fee for ministering the Word of God. If you should like more information concerning the average for honorariums given to Dr. Scott over the years for various speaking events, please contact him.

    It’s recommended that for a smaller church that would want to have Dr. Scott come and minister that they possibly unite together with other like-minded churches in order to cover the various costs of the conference.
